{"id":411,"date":"2026-04-11T06:22:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:22:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/411\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T06:22:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:22:14","slug":"poland-eyes-benefits-of-joining-gcap-sixth-generation-fighter-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/411\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland eyes benefits of joining GCAP sixth-generation fighter project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">WARSAW, Poland \u2014 Polish Deputy State Assets Minister Konrad Go\u0142ota has announced that Poland is considering to join the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), aiming to involve its defense sector in the project to develop a sixth-generation fighter jet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Go\u0142ota told public broadcaster TVP Info the government considers engaging Poland\u2019s state-dominated defense industry in the tri-nation initiative, which is spearheaded by Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, to boost the sector\u2019s capacities and innovativeness. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cToday, we need to make up for some delays in this area, because, over the past decades, we have not produced aircraft in Poland, so our aviation industry requires development,\u201d the official said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The deputy minister also stated that Polish officials have already discussed the project with Italian and Japanese stakeholders, but he did not disclose the status of talks at the government level.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cOver the past few months, I have spoken to representatives of the defense industries of both Italy and Japan,\u201d Go\u0142ota said. \u201cThey are showing an understanding of our proposal, and willingness to have further talks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The discussions come amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/asia-pacific\/2026\/03\/11\/japan-shrugs-off-gcap-delays-fast-tracks-export-rules-for-future-warplane\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">delay in the signing of a deal<\/a> between the three countries, represented by the GCAP International Government Organisation (GIGO), and the Edgewing joint venture which represents national players Leonardo, BAE Systems, and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co. Ltd., a company owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The latest development comes as Warsaw is analyzing whether to purchase an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/global\/europe\/2025\/08\/14\/poland-awards-38-billion-f-16-modernization-deal-to-us\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">additional two squadrons<\/a> of fighters for the nation\u2019s Air Force.
