According to\u00a0journalists from Rzeczpospolita, Poland\u2019s 16th Pomorze Mechanized Division, stationed along the border with the Kaliningrad region, has ordered a\u00a0batch of\u00a0Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles.<\/p>\n
The division has already received the first 15 units, and under the first contract, a\u00a0total of\u00a0111 Borsuks will be\u00a0delivered. A\u00a0second contract for further deliveries is\u00a0expected to\u00a0be\u00a0signed in\u00a0May. Sources indicate that the Polish military plans to\u00a0receive nearly 1,500 of\u00a0these vehicles in\u00a0total.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s\u00a0noted that the 16th Division consists of\u00a0five mechanized battalions, each of\u00a0which will be\u00a0equipped with the new IFVs. This unit is\u00a0the first in\u00a0the Polish army to\u00a0receive both the Borsuks and South Korean K-2 tanks.<\/p>\n
Rzeczpospolita reports that the primary purpose of\u00a0the 16th Division is\u00a0not to\u00a0capture the Kaliningrad region, but rather to\u00a0defend Poland and the Baltic states from potential Russian threats. However, the article suggests that, if\u00a0necessary, the Polish division could be\u00a0deployed to\u00a0\u00abneutralize\u00bb Russian forces and \u00aboccupy\u00bb the region.<\/p>\n
