It affects Brits travelling to the <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/eu-entryexit-system\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Schengen area<\/a>, which includes popular holiday destinations such as France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It is a <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/travel-europe.europa.eu\/ees\/what-is-the-ees\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">digitalised system<\/a> that is replacing traditional stamps in passports. You may be required to register your biometric details, such as fingerprints and a photo, when you arrive. You do not need to take any action prior to your arrival at the border, and there is no cost for using it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">EES officially became <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abta.com\/tips-and-advice\/planning-and-booking-a-holiday\/upcoming-changes-travel-europe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">fully operational on April 10, 2026<\/a>. However, problems with the system, particularly during busy spells at popular airports, have led to it being suspended in a number of countries at various times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\"><a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ryanair.com\/gb\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Low-cost airline<\/a> <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ryanair.com\/gb\/en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">Ryanair<\/a> was issued a scathing message on social media, calling for the EES rollout to be suspended until September. The budget airline slammed France, Portugal, Poland, Italy, Spain, and Germany for failing to &#8216;ensure that adequate staffing, system readiness, or kiosks are in place&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Content cannot be displayed without consent<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Reports suggest passengers have been delayed for hours because of the new system, with some even missing their flights.
