State-backed ElectroMobility Poland said Thursday it will partner with Taiwan&#8217;s Foxconn to develop an electric vehicle production and research \u200chub in southern Poland, advancing plans to create a domestic EV champion \u200cas Europe demand picks up.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Battery EV sales in the European Union rose by about a third in the \u200bfirst quarter, according to industry association ACEA, lifted in part by higher fuel prices linked to the Iran war.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">EMP said it was negotiating the scope of cooperation with Foxconn and its EV subsidiary Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, including possibly forming a joint venture, and aimed \u200cto sign binding agreements in \u2060the second half of 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The partners aim to finalise a package of agreements in the second half of this year, the company added, \u2060moving the long-planned project into its next phase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;From the outset, we have designed this project around the need for a partner that combines industrial scale with technological depth,&#8221; EMP CEO \u200bCyprian Gronkiewicz \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">He cited commitments on technology transfer, building in-house \u200bvehicle design capabilities in Poland and \u200cthe potential use of local suppliers as decisive factors in choosing the Taiwanese group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The planned joint venture would develop a local brand and roll out vehicles across Europe, starting with three models, while building production and technology capacity in Poland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Plans include a factory in southern city of Jaworzno with body and paint shops, battery and electric drive \u200cassembly, and final vehicle assembly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The Jaworzno hub is \u200balso expected to include a new research and development \u200bcentre focused on software, data analytics \u200band digital mobility solutions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">EMP said the project would be complemented by \u200cinvestments aimed at supporting the wider electric \u200bmobility ecosystem, including \u200bthe battery sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Funding will come from the National Recovery Plan and the Reprivatisation Fund, which recapitalised EMP in December 2025, with the partner contributing both technology and \u200bcapital, EMP said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">EMP was \u200cset up in 2016 by Poland&#8217;s four state-controlled utilities to spearhead the country&#8217;s \u200bhomegrown EV ambitions, but the project has suffered repeated delays and strategic \u200bU-turns.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">(Reporting by Barbara ErlingEditing by Bernadette Baum)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Barbara Erling WARSAW, May 7 (Reuters) &#8211;
