Tusk\u2019s warning came\u00a0after\u00a0U.S. President Donald Trump\u00a0revived his threats to take control<\/a> of Greenland, the self-ruling Danish territory that he has long\u00a0coveted.\u00a0\u201cWe need Greenland from a national security situation,\u201d the American leader told reporters\u00a0on Air Force One on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will deal with Greenland in about\u00a0two months.\u00a0Let\u2019s\u00a0talk about Greenland in\u00a020 days,\u201d he added, without giving more information about what he meant.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Those remarks came\u00a0after\u00a0the U.S. launched strikes on Venezuela and\u00a0arrested\u00a0its leader, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro,\u00a0in an audacious nighttime raid.\u00a0The dramatic operation\u00a0raised\u00a0fears\u00a0in Europe that\u00a0Washington\u00a0could\u00a0attempt\u00a0a\u00a0takeover of\u00a0Greenland, prompting Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen\u00a0to issue a stern rebuke.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Annexing\u00a0the Arctic island\u00a0would make\u00a0\u201cabsolutely no sense,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0she\u00a0said\u00a0Sunday, with\u00a0fellow\u00a0Nordic nations\u00a0Norway, Finland and Sweden expressing their support.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The EU\u2019s response to the\u00a0U.S. intervention in\u00a0Venezuela\u00a0has been\u00a0somewhat\u00a0varied.\u00a0High Representative Kaja Kallas called for \u201crestraint\u201d in a\u00a0statement that garnered the support of 26 member countries, minus Hungary.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Spain, meanwhile,\u00a0split from the EU and\u00a0joined\u00a0five\u00a0Latin American countries<\/a> in a\u00a0far more forceful statement\u00a0slamming Washington\u2019s\u00a0attack on Venezuela\u2019s sovereignty and calling for the nation\u2019s natural resources not to be exploited, amid Trump\u2019s pledge to take over its oil fields.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

While\u00a0most\u00a0EU member countries have issued\u00a0their own\u00a0cautiously worded\u00a0statements\u00a0urging respect for international law, Italy struck a more approving note<\/a>, calling military action \u201clegitimate against hybrid security attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
