Poland is negotiating the acquisition of an additional batch of Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles with the platform\u2019s manufacturers.<\/p>\n

The second batch would consist of 146 vehicles, according<\/a> to Polish outlet Defence24.<\/p>\n

The move comes months after the Polish Armed Forces received the first batch of 15 Borsuks<\/a> in December. <\/p>\n

In March 2025, Poland signed a 6.57-billion-zloty ($1.83-billion) contract<\/a> with the Polish Armaments Group and Huta Stalowa Wola for the procurement of 111 vehicles.<\/p>\n

Deliveries of the first batch are scheduled through 2029.<\/p>\n

Requirement of Over 1,000 Vehicles<\/p>\n

With the second batch included, the Borsuk fleet would expand to 257 vehicles, enough to equip four mechanized infantry battalions, along with 25 vehicles allocated for reserve and training purposes.<\/p>\n

The Polish Army initially planned to procure enough Borsuks to equip 10 battalions \u2014 around 588 vehicles \u2014 by 2035. However, the war in Ukraine prompted Warsaw to expand the requirement to more than 1,000 vehicles.<\/p>\n

The latest procurement estimate calls for 1,014 Borsuks in the infantry fighting vehicle configuration and an additional 386 vehicles in other variants.<\/p>\n

Borsuk\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unveiled in 2017, the Borsuk is Poland\u2019s first domestically developed tracked infantry fighting vehicle, designed to replace the aging Soviet-era BMP-1 fleet with a platform offering improved protection, mobility, and firepower.<\/p>\n

The vehicle measures 8 meters (26 feet) in length and weighs around 28 tonnes (61,729 pounds), accommodating a crew of three in addition to six infantry troops.<\/p>\n

Powered by a 720-horsepower MTU turbo diesel engine paired with an Allison 3040 MX transmission, the Borsuk can reach speeds of up to 65 kilometers (40 miles) per hour and has an operational range of 550 kilometers (342 miles).<\/p>\n

Its ZSSW-30 unmanned turret incorporates a WB Electronics automated fire control system, a 30-mm Mk44S Bushmaster cannon, and a 7.62-mm UKM-2000C machine gun.\u00a0<\/p>\n
