{"id":6103,"date":"2026-05-12T11:28:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T11:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/6103\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T11:28:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T11:28:11","slug":"construction-starts-on-baltica-2-polands-largest-offshore-wind-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/6103\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction starts on Baltica 2, Poland\u2019s largest offshore wind project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"90\" data-end=\"291\">\u00d8rsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna have officially launched full-scale offshore construction on the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, marking a major milestone for Poland\u2019s energy transition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"293\" data-end=\"475\">The first monopile foundations have now been successfully installed in the Polish sector of the Baltic Sea, with installation works being carried out by offshore contractor Van Oord.<\/p>\n<p>1.5GW project to power 2.5 million homes<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"775\">Baltica 2 will become Poland\u2019s largest offshore wind farm, with a total installed capacity of 1.5GW. Once operational, the project is expected to generate between 5 and 6TWh of electricity annually, enough to supply around 2.5 million Polish households.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"985\">The wind farm is located approximately 40 kilometres off the Polish coast near Ustka and is being developed, owned and operated under a 50\/50 partnership between \u00d8rsted and PGE.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"987\" data-end=\"1098\">Full commissioning is expected in 2027, with offshore installation works scheduled to continue through Q4 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Large-scale offshore installation campaign<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1225\">The construction campaign includes the installation of 111 monopiles in total:<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n107 foundations for wind turbines&#13;<br \/>\n4 foundations for offshore substations&#13;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1580\">Each monopile is approximately 100 metres long, weighs around 1,500 tonnes, and has a diameter exceeding 10 metres. The structures are engineered to withstand harsh marine conditions for up to 30 years and are individually designed according to site-specific requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1787\">Installation is being carried out using specialised offshore vessels, including Aeolus and Svanen operated by Van Oord, supported by Cadeler and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier for turbine installation activities.<\/p>\n<p>Strategic project for Poland and Europe<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"1973\">Rasmus Errboe, CEO of \u00d8rsted, said the start of offshore construction marks an important step for energy security in both Poland and Europe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1975\" data-end=\"2170\">He highlighted that offshore wind will play a key role in building a more resilient and sustainable energy system, while also creating long-term industrial and employment opportunities in Poland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2172\" data-end=\"2404\">PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna CEO Dariusz Lubera described the start of construction as a breakthrough moment for the Polish energy sector, noting that Baltica 2 is the country\u2019s largest renewable energy project by capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2406\" data-end=\"2564\">He added that the project will strengthen energy security, provide a stable source of zero-emission electricity, and reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports.<\/p>\n<p>Long-term contract and financial framework<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"2613\" data-end=\"2900\">Baltica 2 operates under a 25-year inflation-protected Contract for Difference (CfD) with the Polish state.
