POLAND OH- \u00a0The Bulldogs took a big bite out of Hubbard early as a strong offensive 1st inning would prove to be enough for Poland to snatch a 5-3 win over the Eagles and secure a season sweep of their NE8 foes.Both squads were firing on all cylinders in the 1st inning. Hubbard notched 4-straight singles to lead off the night, with knocks Logan Balla and Maddox Pieton plating a pair of runs and giving the Eagles an early 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n
But the Bulldogs would immediately answer in a grand way, loading the bases with no outs before Luke Lockiec would step up to the plate and crush a massive grand slam out to right field to give the Bulldogs a 4-2 lead on a single swing of the bat. Dylan Kelty would come across later in the inning on an RBI groundout from Kelley Memo, giving Poland a 5-2 lead after only an inning of play.<\/p>\n
After the early barrage, Poland\u2019s Grady Pitzulo and Hubbard\u2019s Dylan BuCher would both rebound on the mound and start to lock down, neither hurler surrendering a single hit over the next few innings.<\/p>\n
The Eagles offense would break through again in the 4th, as Colten Yobe would smack a double to get on before coming around to score on an RBI single from Bobby Thompson to cut the lead to 5-3, but Hubbard\u2019s bats would end up being shut down the rest of the way as Grady Pitzulo took control and end up securing one last strikeout in the top of the 7th to seal the win, earning a complete-game victory on the mound while striking out 6 batters on the night.<\/p>\n
Poland (14-3) finishes conference play with one last victory as the cherry on top of their NE8 Championship season, as the Bulldogs will look to finish the season strong out-of-conference, next getting set to host rival Canfield on Thursday in the Battle of 224.<\/p>\n
