{"id":6479,"date":"2026-05-14T11:45:58","date_gmt":"2026-05-14T11:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/6479\/"},"modified":"2026-05-14T11:45:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-14T11:45:58","slug":"poland-is-europes-lone-backer-of-us-military-bases-poll-shows-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/6479\/","title":{"rendered":"Poland is Europe\u2019s lone backer of US military bases, poll shows \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost 51 percent of Polish respondents favored having a U.S. military base in the country while just 23 percent were opposed, according to a survey for the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niradata.com\/dpi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Democracy Perception Index<\/a> that was carried out in March and April across 98 countries, including 17 in the EU.<\/p>\n<p>The result sets Poland apart from other European countries covered in the survey, most of which reported significant opposition to U.S. military bases on their turf. It also offers public support for Polish President Karol Nawrocki&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/karol-nawrocki-poland-host-us-troops-pulled-from-germany\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">effort to encourage<\/a> the Trump administration to redeploy some troops to Poland.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EricLDaugh\/status\/2052884865872245218?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">asked earlier this week<\/a> about relocating some U.S. forces to Poland, Trump replied that &#8220;it&#8217;s possible,&#8221; stressing his very good relations with Nawrocki, whom he called, \u201ca great fighter, a terrific guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Romania was the only other country in Europe where a slim plurality of respondents favored American bases, but it&#8217;s far more divided on the topic than Poland.<\/p>\n<p>As European diplomatic ties with the U.S. fray under Trump, and public opinion in many countries turns more hostile toward Washington, traditionally pro-America Poland remains an exception.
