The move comes just weeks after the country confirmed that it was to withdraw <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/2202900\/donald-trump-germany-american-troops\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">5,000 troops from Germany<\/a> after comments made by the German Chancellor, <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/friedrich-merz\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Friedrich Merz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/united-states\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United States<\/a> also cancelled a plan developed under the Biden administration to place a missile-equipped artillery unit in Europe. It comes after Germany provoked the ire of the White House after Merz claimed that <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/2202900\/donald-trump-germany-american-troops\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran had \u201chumiliated\u201d Washington<\/a> during the ongoing conflict. Merz also questioned how the United States planned to end the war.<\/p>\n<p>The rationale behind the move to halt the deployment of a brigade to Poland remains unclear but <a href=\"https:\/\/express.co.uk\/latest\/donald-trump\" data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|AutoLink\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Donald Trump<\/a> previously told reporters: \u201cwe\u2019re cutting a lot further than 5,000\u201d service members from Germany.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also threatened to remove troops from other European countries as part of his ongoing attempt to call on the continent to shoulder more responsibility for its security and defence.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to withdraw troops from Germany, which has the second-highest troop presence outside the United States, with 30,000 active-duty personnel, has drawn criticism from both sides of the American political spectrum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoland would like that,&#8221; Trump told journalists earlier this month when asked about the prospect. &#8220;We have a great relationship with Poland.
