But he warned that cooperation did not amount to consent, accusing the president\u2019s camp of trying to shift authority \u201cby force of facts, subterfuge and intrigue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is simply unacceptable and contrary to Poland\u2019s interests,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nawrocki\u2019s office rejected Tusk\u2019s version of events. The president\u2019s spokesperson, Rafa\u0142 Le\u015bkiewicz, called the comments about violating the constitution a \u201cperfidious manipulation,\u201d arguing there was no constitutional drama to the episode.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2251932698-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7689687\"  \/>Liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk is arguing with nationalist President Karol Nawrocki over who gets to represent Warsaw at the top table. | Beata Zawrzel\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose words in no way reflect the truth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Le\u015bkiewicz said the White House dealt with Nawrocki and his people because it \u201cfully understands\u201d that the Polish president is the country\u2019s highest representative internationally, while the government\u2019s role is to execute agreed positions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would very much like Poland to speak with one voice,\u201d Le\u015bkiewicz said, accusing Tusk of turning what he described as routine coordination into an international quarrel and of struggling to accept the outcome of this year\u2019s presidential election won by Nawrocki.<\/p>\n<p>Similar clashes over who represents Poland are looming on the even more critical question of Ukraine. Warsaw is fuming it has been left out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/poland-ukraine-peace-talks-nato-germany-france-uk-europe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crucial peace talks<\/a>, but the internal rifts between Tusk and Nawrocki are unlikely to have tempted an invite to negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>As Foreign Minister Rados\u0142aw Sikorski put it recently, Poland can resemble <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sikorskiradek\/status\/1997626133911929001\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201ca car with two steering wheels\u201d<\/a> \u2014 perfectly drivable, but only as long as both drivers agree where they\u2019re going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tusk did not block the trip and confirmed that Przydacz had received government briefing materials.
