The president, as the state\u2019s representative, cannot be limited to a government spokesperson role,\u201d said Fogiel, who is deputy chair of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/poland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2230376808-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7078548\"  \/>On Wednesday, newly elected right-wing President Karol Nawrocki will be\u00a0at the White House. | Artur Widak\/NurPhoto via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>But the government is adamant that Tusk holds the reins.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president represents Poland but presents the position of the state, which is the position of the government, even if he disagrees with it,\u201d foreign ministry spokesperson Pawe\u0142 Wro\u0144ski told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wiadomosci.dziennik.pl\/polityka\/artykuly\/9873735,instrukcje-rzadu-dla-prezydenta-na-jednej-stronie-a4-zenujace-i-niep.html#google_vignette\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Polish media<\/a>, adding: \u201cThere cannot be two foreign policies for one state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fighting for power<\/p>\n<p>The battle is part of a broader war over who rules Poland. <\/p>\n<p>Tusk leads a centrist coalition that took power in December 2023 after ousting the PiS government that had been in charge for eight years. Nawrocki was backed by PiS, and his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/liberal-rafal-trzaskowski-presidential-election-poland-donald-tusk-pis\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">victory\u00a0in June<\/a>, plus Trump\u2019s return to the White House, derailed Tusk\u2019s hopes of bringing Poland fully back into the EU mainstream.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cThe government\u2019s approach is reductionist.
