O cometa C\/2025 K1 (ATLAS) tinha acabado de passar pelo seu ponto de maior aproxima\u00e7\u00e3o ao Sol e, dias antes, ainda estava intacto. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Originalmente, o cometa,<\/strong> que n\u00e3o deve ser confundido com o \u201cvisitante\u201d interestelar <a href=\"https:\/\/tek.sapo.pt\/tag\/3i-atlas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">3I\/ATLAS<\/a>, <strong>nem era o foco original dos investigadores,<\/strong> que partilharam as suas conclus\u00f5es num estudo publicado na revista cient\u00edfica Icarus.<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e3o perca nenhuma not\u00edcia importante da atualidade de tecnologia e\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tek.sapo.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">acompanhe tudo em tek.sapo.pt<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cEste cometa foi observado<\/strong> <strong>porque o nosso cometa original n\u00e3o era vi\u00e1vel devido a limita\u00e7\u00f5es t\u00e9cnicas<\/strong>\u201d, explica John Noonan, co-investigador e professor no Departamento de F\u00edsica da Universidade de Auburn, nos Estados Unidos. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Tivemos de escolher outro e, no momento em que o observ\u00e1mos, acabou por se desintegrar. DePasquale (STScI)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gra\u00e7as \u00e0 elevada resolu\u00e7\u00e3o do Hubble, <strong>a equipa conseguiu reconstruir a hist\u00f3ria dos fragmentos e determinar quando ainda formavam um \u00fanico corpo.<\/strong> No entanto, surgiu uma d\u00favida: por que motivo houve um atraso entre a fragmenta\u00e7\u00e3o do cometa e o aumento de brilho observado a partir da Terra?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Os investigadores avan\u00e7am com algumas hip\u00f3teses para explicar o fen\u00f3meno.<\/strong> O brilho de um cometa vem sobretudo da poeira que reflete a luz do Sol. Quando o cometa se desintegra, exp\u00f5e gelo \u201cpuro\u201d, <strong>mas isso n\u00e3o significa que fique imediatamente mais brilhante.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Uma das possibilidades apontadas \u00e9 que o gelo precisa primeiro de formar uma camada de poeira \u00e0 superf\u00edcie, que s\u00f3 depois \u00e9 expelida. Outra hip\u00f3tese \u00e9 que o calor do Sol tenha de penetrar no interior do cometa, aumentando a press\u00e3o at\u00e9 expelir a poeira para o Espa\u00e7o.<\/p>\n<p>A equipa est\u00e1 agora a aprofundar a an\u00e1lise dos gases libertados pelo cometa.
