Unaccounted dead and missing

CNN said at least 40 people have been confirmed dead and more than 30 are still unaccounted for after the attack on the building in Komyshuvakha, and local authorities said only some of the bodies recovered as of Wednesday midday had been identified. The Guardian reported that Russia bombed a humanitarian hub in southern Ukraine, killing at least 31 people and leaving dozens missing, and it said the dead included four police officers and two rescue workers, Mykhailo Semikin said. Zelensky said the timing and location of the humanitarian distribution were well publicized, and Danielle Bell, the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, said: “Either the Russian armed forces knew that there was a humanitarian distribution taking place”.

Zelensky warned in an online post that the Russians could not have been unaware that residents remaining in Komyshuvakha gathered each week to pick up humanitarian packages from the site, and he said: “Russians continue to demonstrate, time and again, their hatred of Ukraine and everything that exists here.” The Guardian said emergency responders searched through the rubble of collapsed buildings as Russian drones launched additional attacks in the area that had been bombed, according to Mykhailo Semikin.

Peace talks and wider strikes

Zelensky said the attack came just before Russia launched another massive barrage of hundreds of drones and dozens of powerful cruise and ballistic missiles targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and he said it was yet another of “thousands” of war crimes committed by Russia. BBC reported that Zelensky talked “in great detail for an hour-and-a-half” with US President Donald Trump’s peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner ahead of trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the US on 10-11 November in Abu-Dhabi. The New York Times said the United States told people that peace talks with the two countries would resume after nine months, and it said the meeting in Abu Dhabi would address postwar security arrangements and steps toward peace.

The Guardian said the latest round of talks was scheduled for 10-11 November in Abu Dhabi, and it said Russia announced on Tuesday that its delegation would be led by Vladimir Medinsky, a hardline former culture minister. NBC News said Russia bombed an aid distribution center and neighboring shelter in southern Ukraine on Monday, killing 26 people, and it said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote that “This is further proof that Russia wants no de-escalation”.
