{"id":16332,"date":"2026-05-08T05:31:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T05:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/16332\/"},"modified":"2026-05-08T05:31:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T05:31:01","slug":"ukraine-strikes-russian-military-facility-more-than-1000-kilometres-into-moscows-territory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/16332\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine strikes Russian military facility more than 1,000 kilometres into Moscow&#8217;s territory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ukraine struck a critically important military-industrial complex in Russia on Tuesday, just days before the Kremlin\u2019s Victory Day parade on 9 May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy published a video of launches of domestically-made Flamingo cruise missiles, which he said covered a distance of more than 1,500km to strike a facility in Cheboksary in the Russian Federation&#8217;s Chuvash Republic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The facility in question is a Russian state institute that produces components for high-precision weapons used by Moscow to attack Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;The struck military production facility manufactured relay protection systems, automation equipment, and low-voltage apparatus,&#8221; Zelenskyy wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Russia must end its war and move to real diplomacy. We have made our proposal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Zelenskyy announced on Monday that Ukraine is declaring a ceasefire beginning at midnight on Wednesday. The proposal came in response to Russia\u2019s unilateral declaration of a ceasefire for its Victory Day parade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe believe that human life is far more valuable than any anniversary \u2018celebration\u2019,\u201d Zelenskyy said, referring to Russia\u2019s upcoming 9 May commemorations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He warned that the timeframe of the proposed truce at midnight on the night of 5\u20136 May would be enough to test whether a genuine pause in fighting could be respected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe will act reciprocally starting from that moment,\u201d Zelenskyy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;It is time for Russian leaders to take real steps to end their war, especially since Russia\u2019s defence ministry believes it cannot hold a parade in Moscow without Ukraine\u2019s goodwill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Victory Day blackout<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Russia has reportedly started cutting off mobile internet services to many users starting from Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Russian banks, including the country\u2019s largest, Sberbank, also cautioned that there could be issues with mobile internet and cash withdrawals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">This year the parade in Moscow will also be significantly scaled back, according to the Kremlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It would not feature military vehicles or cadets due to what the Kremlin described as &#8220;current operational situation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cAll measures are being taken to minimise the danger,&#8221; Putin&#8217;s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said earlier as he referred to what Moscow called a \u201cterrorist threat\u201d from Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The fact that the parade is scaled down is seen as an important indicator of the situation in Russia\u2019s military and of personnel and equipment shortages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) think tank assessed that in April, Russian forces lost territory they occupied in Ukraine for the first time in over a year and a half.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The ISW said it has evidence that Moscow lost control of 116 square kilometres over the course of last month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The think tank explained that the Russian rate of advance across the battlefield has been steadily declining since November 2025,&#8221; as continued Ukrainian ground counterattacks and mid-range strikes, the February block on Russia\u2019s use of Starlink terminals in Ukraine, and the Kremlin\u2019s throttling of Telegram have exacerbated existing problems within the Russian military.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ukraine struck a critically important military-industrial complex in Russia on Tuesday, just days before the Kremlin\u2019s Victory Day&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":16333,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[26,5,25,7214,231],"class_list":{"0":"post-16332","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-moscow","8":"tag-moscow","9":"tag-russia","10":"tag-ukraine","11":"tag-victory-day-parade","12":"tag-volodymyr-zelenskyy"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16332","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=16332"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/16332\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/16333"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=16332"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=16332"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/russia\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=16332"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
