Then overnight, more drones and missiles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76072\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">targeted Kyiv<\/a> and \u2013 despite Kyiv downing over 90% of incoming drones \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76126\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">damaged 180 sites<\/a> and sent a residential building <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76071\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crumbling to the ground<\/a> in the capital, with the fates of more than a dozen people still unknown as they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76088\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">remain buried<\/a> beneath the rubble.<\/p>\n<p>JOIN US ON TELEGRAM<\/p>\n<p>Follow our coverage of the war on the <a class=\"inarticle_link\" href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/Kyivpost_official\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">@Kyivpost_official<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>President Volodymyr Zelensky has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76153\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">vowed a response<\/a>, while Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Russia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76089\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chose \u201cterror\u201d<\/a> over peace. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76152\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">condemned the strike<\/a>, saying it does not reflect a sincere willingness to negotiate from Moscow\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p> War updates \u2013 Russia\u2019s penal fighters, Starlink alternatives, air defense dilemma <\/p>\n<p>Peace talks or not, Russia is bracing for a prolonged conflict.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of manpower, Russia\u2019s prison population reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76139\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dropped by 180,000<\/a> after the 2022 invasion began, as Moscow sought to replenish its ranks by enlisting prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Moscow has also been eyeing alternatives for Starlink after it was cut off from the US satellite service a few months prior. They also addressed the issues that provoke the strongest emotions not only among scholars, but among politicians and wider society: the events of the Second World War.<\/p>\n<p>But despite that, Russia appears to be struggling with air defenses as Kyiv ramps up attacks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76109\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">thin out Russia\u2019s defensive network<\/a>, according to Der Spiegel \u2013 which might or might not have contributed to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin\u2019s latest decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76141\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">replace a border region governor<\/a> with an alleged war criminal instead of a civilian one.<\/p>\n<p> Ukraine updates \u2013 Yermak on bail, homebrew satellites, dwindling business recovery <\/p>\n<p>The major corruption case involving Zelensky\u2019s inner circle is also unfolding, with Andriy Yermak, his former chief of staff, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76146\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">now on bail<\/a> after two days of court hearings. (Photo by Brendan SMIALOWSKI \/ AFP)                             <\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump\u2019s meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping is also unfolding \u2013 the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76142\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">talked about<\/a> the Iran war, Ukraine and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>But the versions of events also differ slightly from Washington and Beijing \u2013 Chinese state media said the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76128\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussed Taiwan<\/a>, with Beijing telling Washington that backing the island could lead to collisions, but Washington made no mention of that in subsequent readouts.<\/p>\n<p>And in Europe, the Pentagon reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76107\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">canceled deployment plans<\/a> of 4,000 troops to Poland at the last minute. Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine also spilled over in some peculiar ways \u2013 days after Latvia\u2019s defense minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/75844\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">resigned<\/a> following stray drones crashing in the country, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kyivpost.com\/post\/76135\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prime minister also resigned<\/a> amid political pressure from the coalition over the defense minister\u2019s departure.<\/p>\n<p>Interested in more updates like this?
