The number of African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks in wild boar across Catalonia, Spain, has risen by 16, bringing the total to 284 cases. One of these new outbreaks was detected in Castellbisbal, a municipality that had not previously reported any cases of the disease.
According to data provided to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the case in Castellbisbal is several kilometres away from any other cases. Cases have been found now in an area with a radius of about 8 km. Although this latest case remains within the inner restricted area (Zone II), its discovery will necessitate redrawing the boundaries of Zone II in the coming days.
12 municipalities infected with ASF
The disease has now been confirmed in a total of 12 municipalities: Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Quirze del Vallès, Terrassa, Rubí, Molins de Rei, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Just Desvern, Barcelona, Sabadell, El Papiol and Castellbisbal.
In its weekly overview, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) noted that a total of 3,746 other animals have been analysed and all have tested negative for African Swine Fever.
