ATP Madrid Day 5 Predictions
Cameron Norrie vs Thiago Agustin Tirante
Head-to-head: First meeting
Thiago Agustin Tirante secured one of the biggest wins of his career in the previous round, comfortably defeating Tommy Paul in straight sets. Now up against Cameron Norrie, this match will once again be determined by control from the baseline. While Tirante’s game is naturally suited to clay, Norrie is one of the few players on tour who cannot easily be outworked or fatigued. With his endurance and ability to use lefty angles effectively, the Brit should be able to edge this and continue building momentum during the clay swing.
Prediction: Norrie in 3
Arthur Fils vs Emilio Nava
Head-to-head: First meeting
Emilio Nava has enjoyed a strong start to the tournament, using his serve and aggressive baseline play to build confidence. Against Arthur Fils, however, he faces a player who thrives on the same principles but executes them at a higher level. Fils has looked like a top eight player since his return, bringing relentless aggression and the ability to finish points quickly. While Nava will compete, sustaining that level against Fils over the course of a match may prove too difficult.
Prediction: Fils in 2
Lorenzo Musetti vs Tallon Griekspoor
Head-to-head: Griekspoor 1-0 Musetti
While Lorenzo Musetti is the more natural and accomplished clay-court player, this is a matchup where Tallon Griekspoor has previously found success. The Dutchman’s aggressive approach and strong serve can be effective in Madrid’s conditions, especially given that Musetti has not fully rediscovered his best form since returning from injury. Despite that, Musetti’s superior variation, defense, return game, and feel for this surface should allow him to gradually take control and come through.
Prediction: Musetti in 2
Joao Fonseca vs Rafael Jodar
Head-to-head: First meeting
Arguably the match of the day features a clash between two 19-year-olds, as Joao Fonseca takes on Rafael Jodar. Both players are former US Open junior champions and have already claimed ATP Tour titles on clay, with similar aggressive baseline styles built on powerful returns and dynamic shot-making. Jodar holds the edge in movement and first-serve return, while Fonseca brings greater raw power and a stronger serve—an important factor in Madrid’s high-altitude conditions. With both players entering full of confidence, this contest could be decided by just a few key moments. While Fonseca has slightly more experience at the top level, the energy of the home crowd could push Jodar over the line for another statement win here in Madrid.
Prediction: Jodar in 3
