Princess Leonor continues to prepare for her role as Spain’s future queen. Following the completion of her military training, the Princess of Asturias will pursue a degree in political science at the Carlos III University of Madrid.
The four-year program, offered at the university’s Getafe campus approximately 10 miles outside of Madrid, covers political science, humanities, law, economics, sociology, history, and international relations. It is scheduled to begin during the second half of 2026. According to the Spanish royal household, Leonor was admitted through “the selection process for students who have completed their secondary education abroad and has received a favorable decision from the Evaluation Committee in the admissions process.” The Princess completed her high school degree at UWC Atlantic College, a prestigious international boarding school, in Wales in 2023.
Princess Leonor, who is first in line to the Spanish throne, is currently finishing up a three-year military training program. After undergoing the army phase first, she completed the naval component last summer following a five-month voyage on the Juan Sebastián de Elcano and an additional month on the frigate Blas de Lezo. Leonor is now in training at the Air Force Academy in San Javier, Murcia.
Last summer, Leonor’s younger sister, Infanta Sofia announced she would be attending a private university outside of Spain. Forward College, founded in 2021 and affiliated with the London School of Economics, touts a more “nomadic experience.” It operates in three European cities: Paris, Berlin, and Lisbon. The Infanta is studying for a degree in political science and international relations.
