The royal, who completed the International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, did not take the university entrance exam, and thus, her application was handled through international channels. She will be studying the same course as her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, and will be following in the footsteps of her father by reading for her degree at a public university in Spain.

It comes as Princess Leonor reached an impressive milestone during her military training, completing her second solo flight as a member of the Air Force at the General Air Academy in Murcia. Before her stint in the Air Force, Leonor spent five months at sea as a midshipman aboard the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, completing her Naval training in July, when her father awarded her with the Grand Cross of Naval Merit.

From a young age, she has been perfectly prepared for the throne. Her first solo engagement came at the age of just 15, when she visited the Cervantes Institute as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations and presented staff with two books. The first was the copy of the Spanish Constitution – which she read upon her first public speech in 2019 – while the second was Don Quixote by Cervantes, which she read alongside her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, during their video message at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2024, after graduating from UWC Atlantic (known as ‘Hippy Hogwarts’), Lenore kicked off the new year by making her debut at the Pascua Militar, a 200-year-old Spanish military celebration. The royal was not just attending as the heir to the throne, but as a member of the Armed Forces in her own right. That May, she was the picture of regal grace as she marked the 40th anniversary of the oath of allegiance to the Spanish flag of the 44th promotion of the General Military Academy.

A major milestone came in July, when Princess Leonor made her first solo foreign engagement, accepting the invitation of President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to visit Portugal. Accompanied by the Portuguese president, the Spanish foreign minister, and the private secretary to the King of Spain, Leonor proved that she was more than capable of representing the Crown, and that she had even begun to chart her own course when it came to passion projects.
