Turkey Signs Hurjet Trainer Aircraft Export Contract with Spain

Turkey’s Hurjet trainer aircraft

The export process for the Turkish HÜRJET jet trainer aircraft, developed by TUSAŞ, reached its final stage with a signing ceremony held at Airbus facilities in Spain.

Under the contract, HÜRJET deliveries will begin in 2028, and the platform will play an active role in training activities during the 2029–2030 period. Approximately 30 aircraft are planned to enter service between 2030 and 2035.

The ceremony in Madrid was attended by the Head of the Turkish Defense Industry, Haluk Görgün, TUSAŞ besides Airbus and Spanish defense procurement authorities, and high-ranking military officials.

Görgün stated that within the scope of the program, the HÜRJET  platform will be produced both in Turkey and Spain, and that a structure has been designed in which the Spanish local industry will also actively contribute to the process.

Spain’s Secretary of State for Defence, Maria Amparo Valcarce Garcia stated that the HÜRJET program would give a new impetus to the Spanish defense industry.

Marta Nogueira, Airbus Spain representative, stated that this collaboration constituted a turning point for both the countries and the defense industry ecosystem.

Euro 2.6 Billion program:

The program, with a total value of approximately 2.6 billion euros, includes not only platform supply but also an integrated training system, simulation infrastructure, maintenance solutions, and long-term logistics support packages. In this respect, the project goes beyond a classic aircraft sale and represents the export of a comprehensive “training ecosystem.”

Two-stage production and integration model

A two-phase procurement approach has been adopted within the scope of the program. In the first phase, it is planned that a certain number of HÜRJET aircraft will be produced directly in Türkiye and delivered.

In the second phase, the integration of subsystems to be produced in Spain into the platform will come into play. This model will both increase local industry participation and create a configuration specific to the Spanish Air Force’

Advanced jet trainer plus light attack aircraft:

The HÜRJET, with its single engine and tandem seating arrangement, is designed for advanced jet training missions needed for the transition to modern fighter aircraft. The platform aims to provide pilot trainees with a training experience close to a real combat environment through its digital cockpit architecture, advanced avionics infrastructure, and high maneuverability.

Besides training, the HÜRJET offers a wide range of uses, from light attack missions to armed close air support, from aerobatic displays to aggressive maneuver training. This multi-role structure transforms the platform from just a training aircraft into a solution that provides operational flexibility.
