First place in Foothill League softball has been decided but possibilities exist for standings changes in second through sixth and postseason opportunities might grow or wither for the uppers this week.
Saugus (18-8, 11-0)
Since we last visited softball a week ago, Saugus defeated Hart 6-2 on April 28 and beat Golden Valley 14-0 on April 30. That locks the Centurions in first place in league at 11-0 with only one Foothill game remaining.
That final game will be at home against #4 Valencia at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6.

West Ranch (18-7, 8-2)
The West Ranch Wildcats beat Valencia 11-2 on April 28. Remaining in second place seems likely, but is not assured, with two league games to go. Winning both or either would lock in.
West Ranch will host #5 Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, May 1 and then host #3 Hart at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. Depending on the Canyon outcome, the Hart encounter could be big.

Hart (12-12, 7-4)
The Hart Hawks lost to Saugus 2-6 on April 28, then beat Castaic 13-1 on April 30.
Hart has only one league game remaining, a visit to #2 West Ranch at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. If WR stumbles against Canyon on May 1, and Hart could win this last game, both Hart and West Ranch would be 8-4 in league, and minutia might be called in to list one above the other in standings.

Valencia (10-8, 5-5)
Valencia lost to West Ranch 2-11 on April 28, then took a surprising hit from Canyon, 11-19, on April 30. But, by winning the two makeup league games remaining, the Vikings could finish at 7-5 in league, which would match Hart if the Hawks lose to West Ranch.
Those last league games are both away, against #7 Golden Valley on Tuesday, May 5 and against #1 Saugus on Wednesday, May 6. Both games are at 3:15 p.m.

Canyon (8-16, 3-7)
Canyon picked up two league wins last week by scoring a lot of runs. The first win was an 18-8 victory over Golden Valley on April 28, and the second was a somewhat unexpected whacking of Valencia 19-11 on April 30. The two victories moved the Cowboys up into fifth place in league.
Canyon will visit #2 West Ranch on Friday, May 1 at 3:15 p.m. and then host #6 Castaic at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. That last game will, most likely, sort out fifth and sixth place in the final league standings.

Castaic (8-9, 3-8)
The Castaic Coyotes beat Golden Valley 15-5 on April 27 and then lost to Hart 1-13 on April 30.
Castaic’s last league game will be visiting #5 Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5. It might decide which of them ends the season in fifth place and which in sixth.

Golden Valley (4-17, 0-11)
The Golden Valley Grizzlies took three more league losses last week, 5-15 to Castaic on April 27, 8-18 to Canyon on April 28 and 0-14 to Saugus on April 30.
Golden Valley’s last possibility of a first league victory will be when it hosts #4 Valencia on Tuesday, May 5 at 3:15 p.m.
