Details of the collaboration between Sharjah and Salamanca
The hall’s opening followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Sharjah Arabic Language Academy and the University of Salamanca. The memorandum aims to support Arabic language education for non-native speakers and provide a comprehensive learning environment that includes modern books and publications. The agreement also includes organizing specialized training courses and workshops for students and teachers. This contributes to developing Arabic language teaching skills and disseminating them in a structured and academic manner.
An official ceremony was held at the university’s campus in Salamanca, attended by a number of academics and officials. Participants emphasized the project’s importance in strengthening cultural and intellectual exchange between the Arab world and Europe. Speakers noted that this initiative opens new horizons for students to study Arabic language and literature, and enhances its presence within the European university environment.
Sharjah’s Global Cultural Vision
Dr. Mohammed Hassan Khalaf affirmed that the opening of the hall represents a strategic step reflecting the Emirate of Sharjah’s vision of promoting the Arabic language globally. Dr. M’hamed Safi Al-Mustaghani explained that the initiative is part of a series of high-quality projects aimed at establishing Arabic as a language of science, culture, and civilization. For his part, the Director of the University of Salamanca expressed his appreciation for this initiative, emphasizing that it strengthens intercultural dialogue and academic cooperation between the two sides.
The University of Salamanca is one of the oldest universities in Europe, having been founded in 1215, and has a long history of teaching Arabic. Therefore, the opening of this hall is a significant addition that enhances this extensive academic legacy and supports joint efforts to solidify cultural ties between the Arab and European worlds.
