There weren’t any drastic changes in the Foothill League baseball standings last week, but the final rankings in first and second place couldn’t have been closer. And the fourth and fifth place teams swapped, which could have playoff implications.
Postseason playoff brackets in the CIF Southern Section will be announced live on Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. and available thereafter at https://cifss.org/. Coming from a seven-team league, at least four Foothill teams should make the cut. First games begin on May 14.
West Ranch (15-12, 9-3)
The West Ranch Wildcats finished the regular baseball season with two league victories over Hart, 6-5 on April 29 and 10-2 on May 1.
That, and a run differential over Castaic, gives West Ranch final possession of first place in the Foothill League. The Wildcats’ playoff positioning will be revealed on May 9.

Castaic (19-9, 9-3)
The Castaic Coyotes finished league play with two victories over Canyon, 2-0 on April 29 and 14-2 on May 1. This gives Castaic the same league record as #1 West Ranch, but a head-to-head tiebreaker (run differential) puts Castaic in second place.
With that aside, and very good record overall, Castaic should land in a good playoff spot.

Saugus (14-13, 8-4)
The Saugus Centurions were already finished with league play before last week, so could only observe Foothill action. That action sorted out teams above Saugus and below, but it stayed at third place, which is good enough to make the playoffs.

Valencia (12-14-1, 7-4-1)
Valencia defeated Golden Valley twice last week, 16-0 on April 29 and 14-1 on May 1. With Hart losing two, Valencia moved into fourth place in league, and a likely playoff spot.

Hart (10-15-1, 5-6-1)
The Hart Hawks saw a disappointing end to league play, losing twice to #1 West Ranch, 5-6 on April 29 and 2-10 on May 1. That allowed Valenica to replace Hart in fourth place, which is as far as guaranteed playoff spots go down. But, who knows?

Golden Valley (12-12, 3-9)
The Golden Valley Grizzlies ended league play, and the season, with two losses to Valencia, 0-16 on April 29 and 1-14 on May 1. But three league wins overall earned sixth place.

Canyon (8-15, 0-12)
Two losses to Castaic last week put an end to a dismal league season for Canyon. The Cowboys held tight in the first, 0-2 on April 29, but lost the second 2-14 on May 1.
