The new FC Barcelona ice rink is open. Located on Carrer Carles Ferrer i Salat, 7 (Barcelona), this important facility will be officially inaugurated in the coming weeks during an institutional event that will launch this new space for the city and its stakeholders.

The facility is part of the Espai Barça project and reinforces the Club’s standing in the promotion of ice rink sports and provides the city with another sporting installation. It will also mean another source of income for the Club too.

The rink will actually become the only one in operation in Barcelona after the former Skating rink closed its doors due to the pandemic. By opening the rink, the Club will be bringing back a key space to the city for both sport and leisure purposes.

With a regulation size of 30 x 60 metres, it meets the standard for an Olympic rink for ice hockey and figure skating, and the new facility was designed to meet the technical and operational standards for sport. The rink is now ready for use with an intensive operational approach that is expected to be in place for 364 days a year — closing on Christmas Day only — and remaining open from 7.00am through to 11.50pm.

A holistic model that combines sport, education and commercial operations

The new ice rink will be used for two main sports: ice hockey and figure skating, both at amateur level. At the same time, the Club will run an ice skating school as a point of entry and for initial learning, helping to recruit and educate new people in the activity.

Regular operations will include sessions open to the public, training for figure skating teams — including theatre on ice — plus training and competitions for ice hockey teams of different age groups (U9-11, U15, U18 and first team). The idea is also to rent spaces for specific training sessions, such as for veteran teams.

This model is complemented with a range of commercial operations alongside the sporting activity, helping to keep the facility sustainable and diversify uses.

A multipurpose facility available to the Club and the city

The ice rink is set up as a multipurpose space that can be used for specific school activities, sessions open to the public and corporate or private initiatives. Along these lines, the facility can be rented for sports campuses and to companies and private customers.

Furthermore, FC Barcelona are going to include this facility in their event strategy, expanding potential uses of the installations and creating new spaces for activation.
