LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University student Eliza Lee gained valuable cultural and academic experiences while studying abroad in Logroño, Spain, through the Fundación Language Program at the University of La Rioja during the spring 2026 semester.

Lee spent the semester in the historic city of Logroño, located in northern Spain’s La Rioja region, where she strengthened her Spanish language skills while immersing herself in the local culture. The experience let her engage with students from around the world, explore Spanish traditions and expand her global perspective.

“I have always loved traveling; I couldn’t be happier than when I’m experiencing different cultures and immersing myself in new surroundings,” Lee said. “Studying abroad has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I can still barely believe that it came true.”

“It was very exciting for Eliza to be awarded the grant to study at the Fundación to improve her Spanish language skills,” said Katie Davidson, assistant director for exchanges at Utah State University. “Immersion in the language is paramount for really accelerating language learning skills, and we are grateful that she was able to have this opportunity.”

While abroad, Lee participated in the Fundación Language Program at the University of La Rioja, where she studied Spanish and participated in cultural activities that highlighted the history and traditions of the region.

“I have learned and grown significantly, broadening my perspective,” Lee said. “From learning a new language and making friends from around the world to trying new foods and traveling all over the country, this will be an experience I take with me for the rest of my life.”

Lee thanked the Fundación Language Program at the University of La Rioja for the scholarship that helped make the opportunity possible.

Lee’s experience abroad is one example of how Utah State University is committed to supporting meaningful global learning experiences for students. Study abroad program applications for students interested in similar opportunities during the next academic year will open in late summer.
