The Spanish club want their Sunday game against Baskonia to be postponed due to the upcoming Game 5 against Panathinaikos for the EuroLeague, or else they will not use their senior roster

Speaking to “El Partidazo de COPE,” Valencia CEO Enric Carbonell stated that the club has asked the Spanish ACB to postpone the upcoming game against Baskonia to help the team prepare for Game 5 of the EuroLeague against Panathinaikos.

If that’s not the case, then Valencia is expected to use their junior team on Sunday in the Spanish league game.

“If they can’t reschedule the game, will you play with the U23 team?” the executive was asked, and he confirmed the strategy: “Valencia Basket won’t field all their first-team players for that game, because it’s obvious that Wednesday’s game is very important”.

The club is currently “in talks with the ACB to see if there’s an option to move one or both of the two games .” On Thursday, the day after the decisive Euroleague match, they are also scheduled to play Casademont Zaragoza in the ACB.

Despite Spain having a major presence in the EuroLeague, the Spanish domestic league notoriously doesn’t change its schedule to accommodate the EuroLeague clubs if needed, due to their obligations in the top European clubs competition.

This is not the case in other major leagues around Europe, like Greece and Turkey. On the contrary, due to the EuroLeague playoffs, the Greek league playoffs have been delayed to accommodate Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and BCL title contender AEK.
