While there were only four guaranteed baseball playoff spots to be assigned in the Foothill League, an at-large team was selected as well, for a total of five. Surprising to some, the number six team in league was the selection, bypassing number five.

West Ranch (15-12, 9-3)

As the first place team in Foothill League baseball, West Ranch drew a higher bracket than the other four playoff contenders.

The Wildcats will compete in Division 3, taking on 15-13 Warren of Downey, the third place team in the Gateway League. West Ranch will host that game on Friday, May 15 at 3:15 p.m.

Castaic (19-9, 9-3)

Castaic will begin its playoff battle in Division 4, against 17-7-1 Monrovia, the second place team from the Rio Hondo League. Castaic will host on Thursday, May 14 at 3:15 p.m.

Saugus (14-14, 8-4)

Saugus will also compete in Division 4, hosting 14-13-1 Walnut on Thursday, May 14 at 3:15 p.m. Walnut is the third place team out of the Palomares League.

Valencia (12-15-1, 7-4-1)

Valencia will also play in Division 4. The Vikings will be the visitor on Thursday, May 14 at 3:15 p.m., taking on 14-14 Canyon of Anaheim, the second place team from the Freeway League.

Golden Valley (13-12, 3-9)

Though Golden Valley was the sixth place team in the Foothill League, GV was chosen for the playoffs as an at-large team over number five Hart through the “Competitive Equity” system, which you can think of as strength of schedule. The Grizzlies will host 18-5 University Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Prep is the number two team from the Cross Valley League.
