Game two got postponed to the next day due to bad weather, but the defensive battle returned to be the theme of the action.

The Jags got two runners on in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a single from Greb and Taylor getting hit by a pitch, but nothing resulted from it and kept things scoreless. Gulf Shores also got two runners to reach in the top of the second on back-to-back walks, but could not capitalize either.

The Dolphins finally struck for the first run of the game however in the top of the fourth inning, as with one out and nobody on, John Stephens put a ball over the wall in left field for a home run to make it 1-0.

Spain Park responded quickly though, and on the second pitch in the bottom half of the frame, Taylor drove his own hit deep to left field and over the fence to tie things at 1-1.

The pitchers kept dueling from there, and the Jags had a chance to walk the series off in the bottom of the seventh inning after walks drawn from Ryne Paquette, Price and Greb loaded the bases. Rhys Jones flied out to right field with two outs though, sending the game to extras.

That proved to be crucial, as John William Nix walked to lead things off in the top of the eighth before a sacrifice bunt from Carter Jones moved him over. Tres Moore them singled into center field, scoring Nix and putting Gulf Shores in the lead again at 2-1.

Spain Park could not tie things up despite a double from Taylor in the bottom half, sending the series to a game three. Hudson Franks picked up the loss, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out five and walking three in his seven innings.

That saw the Jags need things to turn back in their favor in the third and final game in order for their season to stay alive. It’s safe to say that everything did indeed do that.

In the top of the second inning, MIchael Johnson, Slade Bounds and Brodie Bragg led things off by loading the bases with two singles and a walk before Price hit a two-RBI double to open the scoring. Greb then hit an RBI sacrifice fly followed by an RBI single from Jones to make it 4-0.

Despite getting the bases loaded again in the top of the third, Spain Park could not do anything. However, in the top of the fourth, Greb and Jones walked while Cross bunted into a fielder’s choice and Taylor got hit by a pitch, juicing the bags yet again.

After Taylor got hit, a wild pitch brought home Jones before Johnson stroked a double into left field to plate two and make it a 7-0 game.

The big advantage opened up even more in the top of the fifth as Greb and Cross singled while Jones got hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. A walk from Taylor allowed Greb to come home, making it 8-0.

Then, Johnson started putting the nail in the coffin with a bases-clearing double to extend the score to 11-0, still with no outs in the inning.

A couple of batters later, Bragg was hit by a pitch before Jack Lutenbacher grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing another run to cross. Back-to-back walks by Price and Greb soon loaded the bases again with two outs, setting Jones up to single into center field and make it 13-0.

The Jags finished things off with a three up, three down inning in the bottom of the fifth, ending things early on a run rule and sending them to the semifinals. Conner Dabbs picked up the victory in game three thanks to his four innings that saw him allow no runs on just two hits while striking out two.

Spain Park leaves Gulf Shores with an overall 33-8 record and now has a chance to secure a spot in the state title series. However, the Jags must get past the Northridge Jaguars in semifinals, a series they will host this week.
