It is time to celebrate for FC Barcelona after Sunday’s 2-0 win in the Clásico at Spotify Camp Nou handed the blaugranes their 29th league title. Not only did they claim the trophy with a win against their biggest rivals, Hansi Flick as coach claimed a fourth piece of silverware against Real Madrid in his two seasons as coach. Furthermore, the German coach has now won six of the seven Clásicos in which he has been in charge.

Four trophies against Real Madrid

Winning a trophy in a Clásico is a great achievement but to do it four times in a year and a half is something special. Over the last two seasons Barça have faced Real Madrid in two Spanish Super Cup finals, a Copa del Rey final and most recently in Sunday’s league decided at Spotify Camp Nou. The only trophy won by Flick’s team not to be claimed against the Madrid club was last season’s La Liga title which was sealed away at city rivals Espanyol.

The first came in 2025 with the Spanish Super Cup title, a spectacular 5-2 win against Carlo Ancelotti’s team. Last season’s Copa del Rey was clinched thanks to Jules Kounde’s extra time winner and this season’s Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia was won thanks to a brace from Raphinha. Finally, on Sunday a 2-0 win at home in La Liga sealed another league title.

Flick, the Achilles heel

Since his arrival as Barça coach, Hansi Flick has led his side to six wins in seven meetings with Real Madrid. The only defeat for the German came this season in the first meeting in the Bernabéu in La Liga. Only Johan Cruyff with 9 wins in 25 matches and Pep Guardiola with 9 in 15 matches have won more Clásicos than Hansi Flick.

Aside from trophies won against Real Madrid, there were key victories in last season league title winning campaign, 4-0 in the Bernabéu and then a frenetic 4-3 win at Montjuïc with just three games remaining. Flick’s run of results has also led Barça to bring themselves level with Real Madrid on 106 victories each in Clásico history.
