A health alert for Birmingham, the Black Country and wider West Midlands has been issued by a Government agency as a heatwave is set to hit the region and remain for days.
The second city is set to bask in sunshine and spark days of warm weather for the Bank Holiday weekend and beyond.
The Met Office has said it will be ‘very warm and sunny over the Bank Holiday weekend’ with temperatures set to hit 31 degrees Celsius on Monday (May 25) with the city and region hotter than Spain.

The weekend will start with ‘fine an dry’ weather on Friday (May 22) with a chance of ‘overnight spots of rain’ and the thermometer not set to fall below 13 degrees.
That warm sunny weather will continue on Saturday (May 23) again with ‘dry and sunny’ conditions and ‘feeling very warm in the strong sunshine’, again hitting 26 degrees.
But then temperatures are set to soar further hitting 28 degrees C on Sunday and peaking at 31 degrees on Monday, with sunshine throughout and hotter than Barcelona and Marbella in Spain and the Algarve in Portugal which are all only set to be 25 degrees C.
It will be even hotter than Barbados too – where 29 C is forecast but with thundery showers!
The overnight temperatures in Brum will be a sticky 17 degrees C on Sunday and Monday.

But those warm temperature have sparked a Yellow Alert from the UK Health Security Agency for the West Midlands.
It starts today (Friday, May 22) in place from 9am and is set to continue for six days until 5pm on Wednesday, May 27.
These will lead to impacts across health and social services with the UK HSA mentioning: “Increased use of healthcare services by vulnerable people.
“Greater risk to life of vulnerable people and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm.”

Those warm temperatures will continue throughout the school half-term holiday.
The Met Office said: “Remaining dry and settled throughout Sunday and early next week with plenty of sunshine. Feeling hot by day with potentially some warm nights too.”
The BBC ’s Birmingham forecast has warm sunshine in Birmingham continuing on Tuesday (29 C), Wednesday (25 C), Thursday (27 C), Friday (26 C) and Saturday 24 C) only breaking on Sunday when rain is forecast and the mercury falls a little to 21 degrees C.
