Dejohni Orndorff, 45, is behind bars after Valencia County Sheriff’s Office deputies said she ran over her boyfriend with her RV. When questioned by detectives, she said she didn’t know he was hit.
Earlier this month, Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a man dead on a road just on the outskirts of Los Chavez. The man was identified as Gerald Marquez Jr. Deputies received surveillance footage from a home nearby showing an RV taking off after the crash. Deputies learned later that the RV belonged to Orndorff.
Orndorff told detectives that she was in an argument with her boyfriend, Marquez, and wanted to leave in her RV, but Marquez was punching at her window trying to stop her. She said once the RV started, she took off, saying Marquez was at the side of the RV, and she assumed he jumped out of the way.
Deputies said that the video shows otherwise, saying Marquez was in front of her RV when she fully accelerated her vehicle. Orndorff stopped the interview, wanting a lawyer; she is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
Orndorff has a criminal history with several charges ranging from aggravated assault to possession of drugs. The state is filing for pretrial detention for Orndorff.
