The teachers’ strike in the Valencian Country is entering its fourth week, and tensions continue to rise. The National Police has initiated proceedings to open a disciplinary file on the officer who on Sunday assaulted a teacher who was demonstrating at the Ministry of Education in defense of public education during the indefinite strike of teachers in the Valencian Community. In the video shared on social media, the teacher is shown walking along the road amid protests, and a National Police officer, whose head is covered with a helmet, runs towards her, pushes her violently from behind, and knocks her to the ground.
According to information provided this Monday by the Valencian Government Delegation, the woman has filed a complaint for the events. This Sunday, the Spanish Government’s delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, had already described the video that went viral on social networks as “unacceptable” and announced that the events would be investigated to “clarify responsibilities”. Bernabé and the Government’s deputy delegate in Valencia, José Rodríguez Jurado, held a meeting this Monday with the unions calling for the indefinite strike, which begins its fourth week with negotiations at a standstill between the majority unions (STEPV, CCOO and UGT) and the Ministry of Education.
