BarcelonaThe Spanish police are investigating the death of a 14-month-old girl due to burns suffered while allegedly being bathed by her mother’s partner. The injuries that would have been caused kept the girl hospitalized for two months at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville.

According to investigation sources collected by EFE, the mother’s partner was allegedly bathing the child in the Sevillian town of Bormujos when the mother noticed that the girl had severe burns on her skin, for which she was urgently taken to the hospital. Upon admission, the medical team directly notified the National Police due to the minor’s condition, who finally died last Friday.

The girl suffered burns on approximately 60% of her body, from which she could not recover. In statements to local television Canal Sur, the mother denied that it was an accident, since if it had been, she pointed out, only one part of her body would have been burned. The woman also indicated that her partner had no burns.

The investigation, coordinated by the Homicide Unit of the National Police in Seville, is already in the hands of the Sevillian courts.
