The Jackson Police Department is investigating the death of an 18-year-old male after the teenager died from injuries sustained in a shooting at a home on Valencia Street.

Public Information Officer Tommie Brown issued a press release April 11, stating Precinct 1 officers responded Wednesday, April 8, to a shooting at a residence in the 900 block of Valencia Street.

According to police, four people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting.

Brown said two people, a female and a male, were injured during the shooting.

Brown said the female victim was transported to a local hospital and treated “for what appeared to be” non-life-threatening injuries.

The male victim, identified as 18-year-old Joel Terrell, was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Terrell died Saturday from his injuries.

The department’s robbery and homicide unit and mobile crime unit also responded to the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

No suspect information was released by the time of this publication.
