HBO Max Spain has named Guillermo Farré to head its original local content production unit. He reports to Deniz Sasmaz Oflaz, VP of local originals for Spain, Italy and Turkey at HBO Max.

Farré comes from Movistar Plus+ where he oversaw film content after joining the Telefonica unit in 2023. Previously, he worked for Warner Bros. Discovery where he helped with the launch of TNT and HBO Max in Spain.

“Guillermo brings a rare combination of creative instinct and strategic discipline, with a proven ability to champion outstanding local stories,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max originals. “His appointment marks the next stage for our Spanish originals team, as we build on a strong foundation and continue to evolve our slate with a clear and focused vision. We are refining the way we develop and produce local content, supporting distinctive voices and ensuring that every project has the ambition and quality to resonate both locally and globally.”

In a social media post, Farré thanked his co-workers at Movistar for “some wonderful years.”

“I’d like to thank all the colleagues at Movistar Plus and all the creators, producers and collaborators I’ve had the chance to work with over the years,” he wrote. “Being part of films such as Sirat, Los domingos, Los tigres, El ser querido or La bola negra, as well as new projects that will be released in the coming months like 5 minutos más and Caza mayor, has been an incredible professional and personal experience.”

Through March, HBO Max had about 1.7 million subscribers in Spain.
