A fire broke out at Madrid‘s second-tallest building, sending plumes of smoke billowing above the Spanish capital.
The blaze appeared to have started around 5pm local time on Tuesday around the middle floors of the Torre Moeve, which stands 248m tall and has 49 storeys.
Footage shared on social media showed smoke rising from the skyscraper, which is one of Madrid’s most recognisable landmarks in its skyline.
Initial reports suggested three people were missing inside the tower block, but local authorities in Madrid have since confirmed that they have all been evacuated after they were confined to safe areas on different floors of the building.
“At no time were any workers missing. There were three workers confined to different floors, out of danger, with whom we were in contact,” a spokesman for Madrid’s emergency services told Spanish newspaper El País.
The cause of the fire at Torre Moeve remains unclear
Two employees were treated for mild smoke inhalation, while a passer-by suffered an anxiety attack.
The fire broke out in a technical room on the tower’s 25th floor and has since been brought under control.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
Employees inside the building told Spanish news outlet El Mundo that they were evacuating via its stairwells.
Madrid is experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures reaching 39C.
The building is one of the four skyscrapers that form the business complex north of the Paseo de la Castellana.
Another fire broke out in the Torre Moeve in December 2025, which involved an electrical transformer in the basement.
