The Castellers de Barcelona made history this Thursday by completing a 3 of 7 at an altitude of 3,454 meters, at the Jungfraujoch station, in the Swiss Alps. The construction, crowned next to the building known as Top of Europe, becomes the documented highest castle ever raised.

The performance, held in front of the Aletsch Glacier, the largest in the Alps and part of Unesco’s World Heritage, also included a 4 of 7, a 5 of 6, and several pillars. The Barcelona group shared the day with the Castellers de Lausanne, a group founded in 2023 that will celebrate its first official performance this Saturday.

The president of Castellers de Barcelona, Maria López, has highlighted the dimension of the achievement, which mobilized more than 180 members of the group to the Swiss Alps. “It is a privilege to be able to promote Catalan culture around the world,” she stated. Until now, the highest documented human towers had been raised by Bordegassos de Vilanova, with a pilar de 5 on Aneto (3,404 meters) in the year 2000, and Maduixots, with a pilar de 4 on Pica d’Estats (3,143 meters) in 2017.
