When choosing a place to spend your family holiday, there are so many different factors to consider, and getting the right ratio of fun to relaxation can prove to be impossible, but one Spanish destination is worth having on your radar.
Thanks to the analysis of over 100 global hot spots, it has been revealed where the best place is for both thrill seekers and chill seekers to spend their summer. The travel experts at AttractionTickets.com carried out thorough research and, to get accurate results, ranked each place using four key pillars.
For those fun-filled days, theme park prestige was one of them, considering the quality and reputations of the nearby parks. Sticking to the theme, they also looked at other adrenaline activities, such as bungee jumping and water rafting.
The two other categories considered beach and wellness, with high-quality blue flag beaches making up a huge part of this, and destinations that had a dual-appeal balance, performing strongly on both the thrill and chill elements of a holiday.

Coming out on top across all of these categories was Costa Daurada in Spain, with a total score of 71.2 out of 100, beating the likes of Tenerife, Mallorca and Barcelona. It’s a holiday hotspot thanks to its eye-watering 38 blue-flag beaches, ideal for families, and a standout theme park.
The park in question is the legendary PortAventura World, an entertainment resort in Salou, attracting roughly 5.3 million visitors each year. On site there are actually two individual theme parks, as well as an aqua park, so families can keep returning for more fun. Inspired by different places in the world, the rides all follow different themes based on each country, accompanied by a wide range of eateries so visitors can spend the entire day there with ease.

As for the destination’s beaches, it comes as no surprise to those familiar with the areas that it would rank so high for this reason, as its beaches are truly stunning. From hidden peaceful coves to huge stretches of sand perfect for tourists with little ones, there really is something for everyone.
Platja de Llevant acts as the beating heart of Salou, dominating the coastline as an action-packed sun spot amongst the beach capital. Here, travellers can expect to see golden sands and calm waters, set against a bustling promenade lined with numerous Spanish shops and food spots.
Another firm favourite is the beautiful Playa de Coma-ruga, a unique, Blue Flag-certified beach. What makes it so different is its natural thermal springs feeding into the sea, creating a real sense of tranquillity and therapeutic swimming conditions for those who prefer a quieter sunbathing space.
For those more interested in absorbing some culture whilst they’re away this summer, this destination also happens to be home to a number of UNESCO World Heritage sites. One of which is the magnificent Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco in Tarragona, which encompasses an impressive 14 Roman monuments.
Overall, the research revealed Spain as the leading country for families offering that desired balance of downtime activities – from the serene beaches to the pulse-racing days out, achieving a total of 6 spots on the top 10 list.
