The Three Cultures of the Mediterranean Foundation, in its ongoing effort to consolidate intercultural dialogue through art, kicks off the month of July with an essential cinematographic proposal. In collaboration with the French Institute of Seville, the institution presents the film cycle ‘French Female Directors. Debut Films’, a carefully curated selection of feature films focusing on the first works of contemporary French filmmakers.
This initiative not only seeks to bring new narratives about today’s society closer to the public, but also to open up a space for reflection on the role and visibility of women in contemporary audiovisual creation. Through deeply human, sensitive stories endowed with a strong social commitment, the cycle becomes the perfect showcase to discover emerging talent from the neighboring country.

The programming for this fortnight revolves around two proposals that have captivated critics with their freshness and their capacity to portray the complexity of contemporary human relationships.
On one hand, the cycle features the screening of ‘Quelques jours pas plus’ (Just a Few Days, 2024), a dramatic comedy directed by Julie Navarro that masterfully navigates solidarity, the phenomenon of migration, and the value of civil commitment. On the other hand, the freshness of the French coast makes itself felt with ‘Fragile’ (Hard Shell, Tender Heart, 2021), the acclaimed romantic comedy by Emma Benestan.
Thanks to the cultural cooperation and film dissemination program of the French Institute of Seville, the Sevillian public can access these films completely free of charge, promoting quality cinema accessible to everyone.

The highlight of the programming arrives next Tuesday, July 14 at 8:30 p.m. with the screening of Fragile (released in Spanish as ‘Carcasa dura, corazón tierno’), the luminous debut feature by Emma Benestan.
Set in the coastal town of Sète, the film introduces us to the life of Az, a young man working at an oyster farm. Convinced that the time has come to consolidate his relationship with his girlfriend Jess, Az decides to hide an engagement ring inside an oyster to surprise her. However, things do not go as planned. From that unexpected turn of events, and supported by the complicity of his friends, the protagonist will begin a tender journey of maturity and self-discovery.
The film will be screened in its original version with Spanish subtitles (VOSE), keeping the essence, rhythm, and warmth of the original performances completely intact.
