Spain are the undisputed world champions on the pitch but on this occasion they need to take lessons on how to celebrate. You wouldn’t know if you walked around Palma that Spain are the undisputed kings of the World Cup. Scotland and England may have fallen short but they certainly know how to celebrate. The party would still be going on!

I was quite amazed during the competition that there were not more Spanish flags being proudly hung from balconies. In many areas of Mallorca there were more Argentinian flags. Take the night of the final, there were celebrations in Palma, and the team paraded through Madrid the next day in a rather shabby victory tour. But that was it. Thank you and goodnight and tomorrow is another day.

A World Cup victory brings a country together, the only place in Spain that has seen the trophy is Madrid. So why no football fiesta? To be honest I find it rather odd. Perhaps, La Roja’s victory took everyone by surprise and little or nothing had been organised. Spain deserves a party for their second star. The trophy should be paraded across the land and I hope it is.

A World Cup win is good for morale and good for Spanish football from the grassroots to the higher parts of La Liga. I never thought that an Englishman would be telling Spain how to celebrate but our wait has been far longer than theirs !!!
