Sepultura turn a Barcelona stage into controlled chaos in ‘Under Siege,’ a blistering concert film from the band’s early-1990s peak. The performance captures the Brazilian metal giants charging through material from ‘Arise’ and ‘Beneath the Remains’ with almost no room to breathe.
The upload is titled ‘Under Siege Live in Barcelona 1992,’ while the individual song listings identify the performances as being recorded in Barcelona in 1991.
Either way, the footage catches Sepultura during a crucial period.
‘Arise’ had pushed the band’s thrash foundations toward darker atmospheres, heavier grooves and increasingly ambitious arrangements. Those songs sound even more physical onstage.
Following a short introduction, “Arise” opens the set with immediate force. The guitars lock into a punishing rhythm while the drums drive the song forward at full speed.
“Desperate Cry” stretches that intensity into a longer, more dynamic performance. Its slower passages only make the heavier sections feel more severe when the band crashes back in.
“Dead Embryonic Cells” remains one of the defining songs of this era, combining rapid thrash with the groove-driven attack that would become increasingly important to Sepultura’s sound.
The set reaches further into ‘Arise’ with “Mass Hypnosis” and “Altered State,” both showing how much detail the band could pack into music delivered with such aggression.
“Inner Self” and “Escape to the Void” bring ‘Beneath the Remains’ into the performance, connecting Sepultura’s underground breakthrough with the broader international attention surrounding them at the time.
The playing is fierce and remarkably tight. Every abrupt transition lands cleanly, and the band maintains its momentum without sacrificing the atmosphere inside the songs.
“Troops of Doom” reaches back to Sepultura’s earlier catalogue before the title track “Beneath the Remains” delivers another burst of tightly wound thrash.
The concert closes with “Orgasmatron,” Sepultura’s crushing interpretation of the Motörhead song. Its slower, marching rhythm gives the ending a different kind of power while preserving the intensity of everything that came before it.
‘Under Siege’ captures a band already capable of overwhelming a room while still expanding what its music could become.
