This week SCCS and COC will get into action, joining the other eight local football teams already dusted by battle. So far our teams have totaled four wins to four losses in non-league games. But one team has already bettered its record over last year.

 

Foothill League

The seven Foothill League teams won’t begin to play each other until Sept. 18. In non-league games last week, the competition took three of seven from our teams. Valencia, Hart and Golden Valley were winners, and there is finally joy in Castaic.

 

Valencia (1-0, 0-0)

The Valencia Vikings beat Simi Valley 48-28 on Aug. 21.

Valencia will host Chaminade at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. The Eagles could be a tough opponent, as the team has two non-league victories already. Last Friday it was 18-0 over normally-tough Oaks Christian, and the week before it was 38-9 over Leilehua of Wahiawa, Hawaii.

Valencia High School is located at 27801 N. Dickason Drive, Valencia, CA 91355. The football stadium is on the southwest side of the campus, nearest Smyth Drive. Park in the lot off Smyth.

Hart (1-0, 0-0)

The Hart Hawks shut out Birmingham 20-0 on Aug. 21.

Hart will visit Newbury Park at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. The Panthers lost 26-32 in overtime to Westlake on Aug. 21.

Saugus (0-1, 0-0)

The Saugus Centurions lost 22-32 to Agoura on Aug. 21.

Saugus will host Sylmar on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. The Spartans have not had an official game yet this season.

That game will be played at College of the Canyons’ Cougar Stadium on the west campus at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. The stadium is on the northwest edge of the campus, near Valencia Boulevard. Parking can be found in lots 7 and 8 off Valencia.

Golden Valley (1-0, 0-0)

The Golden Valley Grizzlies took it to Pasadena 47-8 on Aug. 21.

Golden Valley will host Crespi on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. Crespi lost 24-31 to Notre Dame on Aug. 21.

While listings are confusing, indicating the game is at Golden Valley, the Grizzlies play varsity home football games at Canyon High School. Canyon High School is located at 19300 Nadal St., Canyon Country, CA 91351. The stadium is on the east side of campus. Park in the student lot off Nadal.

Canyon (0-1, 0-0)

The Canyon Cowboys lost 14-20 to Knight on Aug. 21.

Canyon will visit Glendale at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, and maybe the Cowboys can turn things around. The Dynamiters are 0-2 this season, losing to Santa Fe 8-38 on Aug. 14 and 16-20 to San Gabriel on Aug. 21.

West Ranch (0-1, 0-0)

The West Ranch Wildcats lost to Harvard-Westlake on Aug. 21 by a score of 7-38

West Ranch will visit Bishop Diego on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. The Cardinals defeated Paso Robles 37-24 on Aug. 21.

The game will be played Santa Barbara City College.

Castaic (1-0, 0-0)

After one game, the Castaic Coyotes already have more wins this season than last. Castaic defeated Buena 40-27 on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Castaic might double that soon, as next up will be an away game against Littlerock at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. The Lobos got punched out by Adelanto 0-46 on Aug. 21.

Other Local High Schools

 

SCCS (0-0, 0-0)

The Santa Clarita Christian School Cardinals will open the season with a non-league game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 against St. Joseph Academy. The game will be played at West Ranch High School, 26255 W. Valencia Blvd., Stevenson Ranch, CA 91381.

The St. Joseph Crusaders defeated River Springs Charter School 50-8 on Aug. 21.

Trinity (0-1, 0-0)

The Trinity Classical Academy Knights lost to Sage Hill on Aug. 21 by a score of 24-39.

Trinity will visit Desert Christian on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. DC lost to Maricopa 44-50 on Aug. 21.

The game will be played at Lancaster High School.

College of the Canyons (0-0, 0-0)

Last year COC football competed in the Central League of the National Division within the Southern California Football Association. This year it’s the same.

Last year the Cougars were 4-3 in conference, good enough for fourth place, and 4-6 overall.

COC’S first non-league game this season will be at home this Saturday, Aug. 29 (now at 10 a.m.) against Southwestern. It will also be the first game for the Jaguars.
