Van Oevelen’s Valencia Loan Switch Confirmed

Keeper Kayne van Oevelen has completed his season-long loan move to Valencia.

The Dutchman arrived in Spain yesterday to undergo his medical and complete the formalities on the switch.

The 23-year-old joined Town for £3.4 million from Volendam earlier in the summer, signing a five-year deal, but the Blues had always anticipated sending him out on loan to gain experience and it’s understood a move to a Championship club had been agreed prior to Christian Walton picking up his foot injury.

Van Oevelen impressed in his first season in the Eredivisie last season, which was only his second campaign as a first-team regularly, Volendam having been in the Eerste Divisie the previous year.

Valencia were keen on recruiting Van Oevelen on a permanent basis prior to his move to Town last month but, despite having agreed personal terms, had been unable to settle on a fee with Volendam.

“I’m doing well and my family are doing well,” he told the La Liga club’s website regarding the move. “Everyone is very happy, including me.

“I’m really looking forward to getting onto the pitch to show what I can do and help the team. The city is truly fantastic. I’ve really enjoyed these first few hours here.”

He says Valencia is somewhere he knows well: “I’ve been here many times on holiday. I always enjoy myself when I’m in Valencia. At the club, from the moment I arrived, it felt like there was already a family here. I feel very welcome.”

Quizzed on his qualities as a keeper, he added: “I’m a goalkeeper who likes to come out. I like to play with my feet, but I can also play long balls.

“I’m strong when dealing with crosses and in the air. I think I can help the team with my work rate, which is very high. Also, I think I’m a good teammate in the dressing room.

Reflecting on his career up to now, he continued: “Last year was the best year of my career to date. The year before that I also had a very good season, with many positive moments.

“The last season had its ups and downs, so it was also good for gaining experience. All of that is part of my journey and I hope to continue becoming a better player.”
