ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola’s renewable energy subsidiary in the United Kingdom, signed a five-year agreement in July with RES, a company specialising in renewable energy, to strengthen the operation and maintenance of 15 onshore wind farms in the United Kingdom. The contract covers a combined renewable capacity of nearly 600 MW. It aims to ensure clean, secure and efficient generation as demand for renewable electricity continues to grow.
A combined capacity of 588 MW
The 15 wind farms covered by the agreement together total a capacity of 588 MW, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 412,000 households, according to data provided by RES. The sites include Harestanes, one of Scotland’s largest onshore wind farms. This partnership fits into a broader global dynamic in the wind sector, marked both by new tenders — such as the one where Japan caps a 700 MW onshore wind auction at 14 yen per kWh — and by operational incidents, such as the episode in which Ørsted shuts down a turbine after a fire at Greater Changhua 4.
32 new jobs and a strengthened supply chain
The agreement is also expected to support skilled employment and the wind energy value chain, helping keep the farms running safely and efficiently. It provides for the creation of 32 new jobs, along with a strengthened network of suppliers, contractors and technical professionals involved in the operation and maintenance of the wind facilities. According to Iberdrola, the collaboration reflects the group’s aim to build partnerships that improve the availability of its assets.
A long-term electrification strategy
The group presents the agreement as a contribution to electrification and to advancing the energy transition in the United Kingdom. RES, for its part, continues its role as a specialised provider of operation and maintenance services for renewable assets on behalf of international operators. The agreement between ScottishPower Renewables and RES runs for five years, covering all 15 onshore wind sites involved.
