Welcome to The Daily Merengue — a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the Mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Ezek XI, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Juninho.

Writer’s Prelude. We’ll keep today short. Apologies for the delay there was some confusion on my end with the scheduling. Expect regular DT programming from me starting tomorrow.

Sergio Martinez. Another youth player has joined the ranks of Real Madrid / Real Madrid Castilla. I’ll be honest that I don’t know too much about Sergio besides that we initially were linked to him in around November – January. He seems like a budding great prospect but it’s unclear how or if he’ll ever make it to the 1st team. This very much feels like a market opportunity considering his release clause was only 3M. However, some reports state that the plan is to have him practice with the 1st team so maybe Mourinho will find some use for the youngster. Maybe we’ll look back at this transfer late season and unveil another hidden gem.

A Midfield Dilemma. I’ll likely expound on this more tomorrow. But I still have major concerns for our midfield. We had a dominant performance against Malaga but for the opening 20 mins (or really until Jude’s goal which imo came a little against the run of play) Malaga was easily evading our press and having a rather easy time forcing Rudiger / Courtois to huff long passes towards…Vini (of all people). This issue will only get trickier in the CL with a reminder that Camavinga, Bernardo Silva, and Arda Guler will be suspended for the first match against Inter.

Anyway…enjoy the day off MM. Tomorrow we work again.
