The wind energy sector is preparing to gather in Madrid for a conference focused on the role of wind power in Europe’s future. According to WindEurope, the event will feature over 400 senior decision-makers, including the Spanish Prime Minister, who will open the conference on a Tuesday. European Commission Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen, and energy ministers from several European nations are also scheduled to participate.

Conference Scope and Exhibition

The program will examine wind as a cost-effective energy solution, alongside topics such as geopolitics, misinformation, asset protection, financing, permitting, and auction design. A record exhibition will include more than 620 companies. Organizers anticipate over 16,000 attendees and 400 speakers across 80 sessions, with additional participation from Spain’s Third Deputy Prime Minister and officials from Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Norway.

Industry Challenges and Technology Focus

Discussions over three days will address urgent energy challenges, including system costs, security, electrification, grids, and sustainability. Concurrently, the industry is experiencing a convergence with software, as control rooms evolve into complex decision-making environments managing volatile markets and hybrid assets. There is a growing executive demand for operational systems that can anticipate events and automate responses.

Vendor Participation and Solutions

Technology company Green Eagle Solutions will be present at the event, showcasing its automation platform for renewable energy operations. The platform is designed to provide monitoring and automated responses, allowing control rooms to scale automation. Separately, Whiffle offers a mesoscale weather data service providing wind climatology data. This service, validated against data from over 180 global sites, offers a 21-year hourly time series for analysis and is used by developer RWE in its assessment workflows.

Additional Industry Events

In June, a separate technology workshop in Rotterdam will host over 450 experts to discuss advancements in resource assessment and operating wind farm analysis.
