Barcelona have received a boost ahead of Sunday’s clash with Valencia in the fourth round of the Spanish league.
According to the newspaper “Sport“, Gavi will return to work on the pitch tomorrow, Thursday, and is expected to take part in a significant portion of the training session alongside his team-mates.
It marks important progress in his recovery, following the concern that surrounded the midfielder after the blow he took in the opening round of La Liga against Elche.
Gavi took a heavy knock to his right leg during that match and then began to feel discomfort, prompting the medical staff to withdraw him as a precaution.
The worry ran deep. This was the same leg in which he had suffered a serious torn anterior cruciate ligament, but later examinations ruled out anything serious and confirmed it was no more than a bruise.
Since then, Gavi has followed a special training programme to shake off the pain completely.
Barcelona have no intention of rushing his return. The priority is to gradually rebuild his feel for the game, and a trip with the squad to the Mestalla to face Valencia has not been ruled out.
His comeback matters to coach Hansi Flick. Gavi is a key figure, both for what he offers on the pitch and for his importance in the dressing room.
