As part of the Seville Flamenco Biennial 2026, the most prestigious international festival dedicated to the art of flamenco, the Three Cultures Foundation continues its “Flamencas” film series.
This series positions cinema as a space where cultures, artistic languages and shared memories converge, paying tribute to the women who have made a decisive contribution to building, preserving and promoting the world of flamenco both within and beyond Spain. Hence the title of the series: “Flamencas”.
Through a carefully curated selection of films and documentaries, this film series traces the careers of key figures in flamenco singing, dancing and creativity, bringing the audience closer to stories of talent, commitment, freedom and personal triumph.
These works celebrate the creative power of women and affirm their role as leading figures in flamenco, one of the Mediterranean’s most universal cultural expressions.
Organised by the Three Cultures Foundation, the series also represents a commitment to cinema made from a woman’s perspective and to recognising women’s contribution to the audiovisual industry, fostering new spaces for visibility, reflection and dialogue between filmmaking and cultural heritage.
The event takes place next Tuesday, 15 September, at 8.30 pm, at the Foundation’s headquarters, with a screening of the film Contemporary Masters of Lebrija, by Tere Peña and Alfonso García (2024).
The film offers an overview of an entire generation of artists from Lebrija who pursued their professional careers in the second half of the 20th century and the early 21st century, and who have championed – and continue to champion – the essence and purity of this art form, taking the name of Lebrija to stages all over the world.
It features artists of the calibre of Juan Peña El Lebrijano, Curro Malena, El Funi, Pedro Bacán, Manuel de Paula, Pepe Montaraz, Inés Bacán, Pedro Peña and the fiery Concha Vargas.
Tickets, which are free, will be available from 8 September on the website of the Three Cultures Foundation.
