Follow us on Google Discover Jose Mourinho has publicly criticised Raul Asencio over his off-field behaviour. The Real Madrid boss is unhappy, and he has said so in no uncertain terms.
Asencio was fined and handed an eight-month driving ban after a drunk-driving conviction. He registered 0.90 mg/litre of alcohol, well over the 0.25 mg/litre legal limit in Spain.
The 23-year-old accepted the offence in a fast-track trial and will pay €14,400.

Speaking ahead of the La Liga clash with Real Betis, Mourinho did not hide his frustration.
‘I am not happy with Raul Asencio,’ he said.
‘He is a great professional, no one trained like him. But a Real Madrid player is always a Real Madrid player. Even off the pitch.’
‘What you do outside, hurts the image of the club. What I’m saying is I am not happy.’
The message is clear. The manager rates the player’s work on the training ground highly, but he expects the same standards away from it.
The drunk-driving case is not the only issue hanging over Asencio. According to several reports, he is due to appear before the Criminal Court over an alleged involvement in a sexual video incident from 2023, in which two minor women were filmed without their consent. Prosecutors accuse Asencio and three former Real Madrid academy team-mates in the case.

He has not been included in the squad for any of the club’s three games this season.

Reports also claim Mourinho made it clear Asencio will not be part of the first-team squad at the Bernabeu this term. Real Madrid tried to offload the defender over the summer, but he turned the move down and wants to stay.
A quadriceps injury disrupted his pre-season, and a shin problem has recently flared up, one that may need surgery if it does not improve.
For now, Asencio trains on while his future hangs in the balance. Mourinho has set the standard, and the defender is a long way from meeting it.
Madrid face Betis this weekend before they start their Champions League campaign against Inter next week.
